It wasn’t that long ago that I first read *Kissnanna’s account of his Superfunkies recording experience in this blog. Like most viewers, I initially found the show trying to pack in too much content and lacking focus. Thankfully a revamp in format and switch of hosts later injected more identity and funky element into the show.

All too soon, Superfunkies came to an end last night. Appearing together for the last time in their signature white tops, the ten Superstar finalists reminisced about how the PSS contest had changed their lives. Seeing the Superstars teasing each other and talking about themselves were definitely more entertaining than the guests they invite to talk on the show in the previous weeks.

I will miss the chemistry and commaderie among the hosts – wacky Chanel, jovial Sugi, blur Ruth, goofy Leon, coy Candyce, earnest William, sweet Silver, affable Jason, articulate Sin Huey and "Huang Zi Jiao turned Ekin Cheng lookalike" Junyang (not I say one! haha). What a bunch of zany people!

Some of them will stick around to shoot the Superstar drama or take a stab at the entertainment industry. The rest will gradually fade away from the public eye and resume ordinary lives.

It was fitting their final performance together was the inspirational power ballad Cai Hong (Rainbow). Good luck, guys!

I’ve been seeing more online rantings on the Project Superstar recently. Non-fans and jaded fans of the contest gripe about the constant appearance of the Superstars on TV programmes, including awards and charity shows. They find the excessive exposure of the Superstars a turn-off. Ahh, you know how it is with MediaCorp. Yup! Make hay while the sun shines. Akan dating is the Superstar drama early next year. Oh no!

Another online comment (including a few from this blog) is that our dear Sin Huey has “expanded”. Sad, hor? A case of déjà vu… like seeing her back in the early rounds of the PSS contest. Will someone consider giving her a slimming endorsement this X'mas? :p

While watching the recent Star Awards on channel 8, I noticed the gals onstage were either slim or skinny or super thin... scary. The rare exceptions were Aiyoyo Chen Liping and Sin Huey. Surely the former is a few sizes of the latter... but I'm sure you get the drift :p

The post Star Awards show featured a performance by the Superstars singing and dancing to the catchy beat of Di Yi Tian. I have to say Sin Huey has a natural groove for dancing. Pity she doesn’t strut much of that stuff in her solo performances.

There was no dancing though by the Superstars at last Sunday’s Affairs of the Heart charity show. What we got was the sound of "music" from an assortment of vegetables. The vegetable orchestra didn’t quite pull it off, particularly the “wind instruments”, but good effort lah. Honestly, I thought it looked a little silly. Why not save the vegetables and put up an item they’re good at... singing (duh)! Like Weilian, who never fails to tug the heartstrings of the audience with his heartfelt singing.

Well, at least we get to see this adorable, blur side of Sin Huey :D

A Surprise Encounter

I had not expected to see Sin Huey last Saturday. The Lime Sonic Bang concert was playing at *scape while I had a movie date next door at Orchard Cineleisure. I reckoned the concert would be well over by the time the movie ended.

On my way out after the movie, I noticed a small crowd lingering around the Lime magazine billboard along the sidewalk. Curious, I headed in that direction and to my amazement, found myself facing the backs of Sin Huey and Kelly! *beams* Whoa... what a stroke of perfect timing! It was her boots that caught my eye first :P They were watching Weilian and Junyang penned their signatures on the board while waiting for their turns.

Two girls standing behind Sin Huey and Kelly called out to Sin Huey. Sin Huey turned her head and gave them an apologetic smile, signalling she could not pose for their camera. Her turn to sign was up next, after which all four Superstars posed in front of the board for a publicity shot. They looked like seasoned pros, flashing their Kodak smiles on demand for the photographer. Photoshoot over, they made the short walk to the stage at *scape, accompanied by their minders and security guards. The concert was still in full swing and local band Electrico was dishing out heart thumping music for the enthusiastic crowd.

Their turn was next, each performing an English song and a Mandarin song. They were somewhat off-colour that night, particularly Kelly. I held my breath when she strained to hit the high notes of Alanis Morissette’s “That I Would Be Good”. Sin Huey did not hide her nervousness when she confessed “Actually I’m quite nervous because there’re many powerful singers here” after belting Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby”. Huh? Isn’t she a powerful singer too? :D

Junyang crooned “When You Say Nothing At All” while Weilian sang “Only Love”. He must have been tired as he missed a few lines mid-way through the song, which is likely to be included in his upcoming album.

On a separate note, Channel U has come up with yet another music video of the Superstars singing a X’mas medley. Everyone looks so happy in the video. Like Sin Huey's cool hairstyle?

舞出彩红 Live!

After numerous past appearances by the Superstars which involved only handshaking or autographing CDs, it was great to finally see Sin Huey, Kelly and Junyang sing live yesterday. They even sportingly obliged with a catwalk :D

The crowd turnout at the 舞出彩红 OST CD autograph session in the far flung Jurong Entertainment Centre (for "easterners" like me) was not as big as I had expected. As usual the red and yellow fanclubs turned up in force to scream for their idols. A visibly slimmer Kelly performed 青春 with Junyang, who certainly did a better job than Guo Yanfu. Junyang also performed his solo track 舞伴.

Is it just me who noticed that Sin Huey was not her usual confident self yesterday? The lacklustre vocal support from the crowd seemed to have demoralised her a little. I felt her rendition of 舞出彩红 could do with more hand or body gestures to convey the dramatic emotions of the song. Thankfully she made up for her lack of physical expression with superb live singing. Wow!!

Sin Huey conceded the low notes of 舞出彩红 were quite a challenge for her. 933 deejay Peifen commented it is a difficult song and praised Sin Huey’s CD version as well as her live performance. Coming from a deejay, her opinion cannot be biased right?! :p

I don’t know if Sin Huey’s dress and boots ensemble (argh!) yesterday was really meant to convey the retro look, as thought by Peifen.. haha. But she can surely do to jazz up her fashion style for a more hip and youthful image. By the way, I finally caught the elusive channel U promotional video. Kudos to the stylist for making her look damn glam, man :)

Rainbow Connection (舞出彩红) Soundtrack

Ever disliked a particular drama serial but loved the soundtrack? Yeah, I’m referring to 3/7 of the soundtrack of the dance drama 舞出彩红 currently showing on channel 8.

The title track 舞出彩红 performed by Sin Huey is probably the most technically difficult song on the soundtrack. Big on sound like a song from a Broadway musical, the theme song calls for a vocal range that puts Sin Huey’s vulnerable low registers to the test. While not technically faultless, she did well to evoke the aspirational emotions of the song with her soulful tone and powerful pipes.

The guitar-backed 看透 is an ethereal track that sees Sin Huey adopting a soothing, airy voice to give the song a whimsical, almost melancholy feel. Highly listenable, it is the ideal track to play when you’re alone in a reflective mood at night. This is my personal favourite on the soundtrack.

In the upbeat 遇见爱情, a duet with Junyang, Sin Huey employs her powerful, sultry vocals to good effect. She excels in this type of songs and carried off this one with panache. Alongside her, Junyang sounded quite feeble but he fared better on his own in the breezy 舞伴 which fits his smooth, mellow vocals.

Another duet, 青春, features Kelly with Guo Yanfu, one of the male leads in the drama. Kelly’s vocals are hardly stretched in this catchy number but appear mismatched with those of her partner, who acts better than he sings.

单人舞 is a slow number by Silver which she did reasonably well on the emoting but her technique is basically weak. The last duet 能爱就爱 is a fast tempo song with a mediocre tune and even more mediocre singing by Ruth and Jason, to put it mildly. How this song made the cut for the soundtrack is beyond me.

Overall Sin Huey’s polished and assured delivery on this soundtrack serves as a tantalising appetizer for the main course to come *slurps*

Project Multi-Star

I bet when Sin Huey joined thousands of other hopefuls in the Project Superstar contest just a few months ago, she never imagined she had a shot beyond singing stardom. Riding on the immense success of the contest, MediaCorp has packaged her and some of the Superstar alumni as potential “multi-stars”.

Coming on the heels of Sin Huey’s music recording deal was news that she will be playing one of lead roles in a 13-episode Superstar drama. The Channel U drama serial, due to begin shooting next month, will also have Weilian, Kelly and Junyang in the leading roles.

The unoriginal storyline sees Sin Huey shedding her nice gal image to play a somewhat b*tchy character. Bleah… who cares so long as one gets to see her on TV, nasty role or otherwise. I’m glad she’s not playing Kelly’s tragic character… can’t bear to see Sin Huey cry buckets. Remember the results show of the second qtr-final? ;)

One of the highlights of the drama will surely be the much-teased kissing scene between Sin Huey and Weilian. I wonder how many repeat takes will that scene require? :D And for crying out loud, Weilian, the “honour” is yours okay!

Even before Sin Huey makes her acting debut, she notched another personal first by singing the theme song of the new Channel 8 drama 舞出彩红. What a pleasant surprise! Her distinctive vocals in the opening theme song caught many fans off-guard. I’ve yet to get hold of the OST CD, which features seven tracks including two solo and one duet (with Junyang) by Sin Huey. Having read some online comments on her new songs, they appear promising.

Sin Huey has proven she has the singing chops and credible hosting skills. Hmm.. can she act as well? 加油喔!

My Two Superstars

Hoooray! Woohooo! Phew! My Superstar Sin Huey finally inked her long awaited recording contract with local music label Play Music last week (18 Oct 05)! It’s been an agonizing wait but well worth it. Kudos to Play Music for having the foresight to invest in her talent and potential.

However I have some reservations with Play Music’s plans to train Sin Huey into the next 小A*Mei. Ditto for her new label mates Kelvin (Jacky Cheung) and Derrick (Korean hunk of the moment, Rain). I had expected Play Music to come up with a more creative marketing strategy to spice up interest in their new artistes. Oh well..

Ok, at least it wasn’t Jolin or some other idol singer with limited singing talent. We’re talking about 張惠妹, the Taiwanese pop icon with the powerhouse vocals and sizzling showmanship. That says quite a bit about Play Music’s confidence in Sin Huey’s singing and performing prowess.

Let me confess... I’m a big fan of A*Mei. So do excuse me for gushing over my favourite singing diva. I can’t sing for nuts, so being an A*Mei fan is probably the only thing I have in common with Sin Huey... haha. One is my 大Superstar and the other is my 小Superstar :D

Needless to say I got quite a kick out of Sin Huey performing 康定情歌, 哭不出來, 我恨我愛你 and doing justice to the songs. In some ways her live performances do bear some trademarks of A*Mei – the emotive delivery style, husky/sultry vocals, even the bodily gestures onstage. But how to make fair comparisons with the super charismatic A*Mei, who’s in a heavenly league of her own? Why not let Sin Huey develop into a shi li artiste in her own right, with her own distinctive singing style and identity?

Now that the recording contract is sealed, I look back with some satisfaction at how I have followed Sin Huey from her early days during the Superstar contest, watched her progress and affirmed my belief that this is a person worth supporting. Whether she will become hong or not lies in the creative hands of Play Music and her own diligence, plus a huge dose of luck.

If all goes well, Sin Huey’s debut album is slated for release next February. Yay! I can’t wait!

Survivor Sin Huey

Yummy! I had a double delicious dose of Sin Huey last week :P The occasion was the CD autograph session of the Superstars held at Bishan J8 and HMV Heeren on Fri and Sat respectively.

Fans who turned up did not seem to mind that none of the Superstars sang a single note. They were euphoric just to cheer for their favourite Superstars and get their CDs autographed. Among the supporters at Heeren were Kelvin’s 3-year-old niece and Derrick’s 84-year-old spritely granny. Cool!

I was particularly happy with my Heeren outing as I got to enjoy a close view of pretty Sin Huey. Shiok, man! Oh did I mention she was wearing a short denim skirt? The sweet news of course was Sin Huey’s coy message to watch out for her “good news” this week. Haha she’s already let the cat out of the bag! Woohooo!!!

Observing the actions of other fans kept me entertained while waiting in the autograph queue. At J8 a group of hyper teenage girls near me kept screaming their lungs out for Junyang. Thankfully my eardrums survived the onslaught ;) I also saw a girl scribbling a last-minute message to Kelly on her notepad. Further away a burly guy in a pink tee was holding aloft two huge bouquets of flowers. The bigger of the two bouquets went to Sin Huey but not sure who was the recipient of the second one. At Heeren Derrick’s fans showered him with a variety of cute gifts. A fan even presented Sin Huey with a lollipop!

Not surprisingly, Sin Huey’s 不要说抱歉 received special mention from bubbly 933 dj Peifen who hosted both events. She commented that Sin Huey has a powerful singing technique (chang gong hen you power) and managed to produce her own singing style (chang chu zi ji de wei dao) to the song. Better still, I-Weekly’s review of the Best of Jue Dui Superstar CD gave her performance the thumbs up.

For all the praise given to Sin Huey, I feel there’s still a lot of space for her to grow into an accomplished vocalist. While her greatest strength is her natural ability to inject emotions into her songs, her singing technique can do with further improvement, particularly her lower registers and pitching. Jia you Sin Huey!

I was pleased with a brief line in I-Weekly’s CD review which considers Sin Huey a survivor. How apt a description. She endured a rocky journey during the Superstar contest, but persevered and went against the odds to reach where she is today. An inspiration indeed to slouchers like me :)

The next lap of Sin Huey's amazing journey is about to begin. Ready, get set, go!

Surprise! Sin Huey's Childhood

Your mei liang xin 没良心 one is here...hehe. But don't get too excited, I'm not Sin Huey!

Now Ｉ know how Sin Huey feels. Sometimes you feel so tired you don't feel like writing anything on the PC. So I beg your understanding for the lack of updates.

Anyway, I don't have any news either. Oops! I very qian bian 欠扁 hor?

What I want to write about is the I-Weekly article (a few weeks back) on the Top 4 Superstars.

This is the first copy of I-Weekly I've bought in like 2 years? And I've only read the article on Sin Huey only till now. No time to read the rest.

The first sentence of Sin Huey's article struck me. Sin Huey says if there's a song that represents her childhood, it's Huang Hong Mo 黄宏墨's Ye Ren De Mong 《野人的梦》!

Who in the world still remembers this Huang Hong Mo!?

I remember this Huang Hong Mo is like some xin yao 新瑶 guy who appeared on TCS (or was it SBC then still?) show in jeans and sang with a gruffy voice. I'm totally surprised Sin Huey, or anybody still remember him.

Maybe it shows Sin Huey and I belong to the same generation. :)

Reading the article, I also realised that although Sin Huey grew up in a Malaysia kampung while I (and many of you readers too, I'm sure) in a HDB housing estate, we are not that dissimilar in many ways. Well, okay I didn't get molested but I got catch spiders just like Sin Huey did...hehe.

Okay, so much fei hua 废话 from me. Incidently, quite by chance I was able to get into the same van that Sin Huey had travelled in for the I-Weekly photoshoot. It's totally silly but I was happy to be associated with Sin Huey this way. I was sniffing around the seats for any of Sin Huey's skin cells/hair cells that might have fallen down there. Ugh!

Enjoy the scan of Sin Huey! She looks so chio right? Expect to see and hear more of her!

Superstar Concert 30-09-2005

It’s three days after the Superstar concert last Friday and I miss Sin Huey already! The highlight of the concert for me must surely be performances by Sin Huey (duh!) and Kelvin. More of that later.

Ok, let’s start with the concert venue at the newly constructed Max Pavilion at Spore Expo hall 10. Looking like a warehouse from the exterior, it boasts quite an excellent sound, video and lighting system. Video footage of the Superstars’ performances during the contest were shown on the video wall by the stage before the start of the show. TODAY reported that over 90% of the 6,000 seats were “sold”.

The concert kicked off at 8.30pm with a group song and dance performance of the rock anthem by Queen “We Will Rock You”. Well, they tried… :P Super host Quan Yifeng did a good job of holding the show together and injecting some laughs to relieve the bouts of boredom that crept in between the show. The concert was basically divided into two halves, with the first half “anchored” by Junyang/Sin Huey and the second half by Kelvin/Kelly. Footage of Sugi, Derrick, Jason, Weicong and Chanel hamming it up as the Superstar judges were flashed on the video screen in between the show segments, spouting lines like “What is power? Power is nothing without control!”. Sounds familiar? 8-) Incidentally, Fang Zhonghua and Ye Peifen were in the audience and they must have enjoyed a good chuckle watching the spoof of themselves. I must say Weicong and Chanel displayed good comic potential… ha ha.

The first half started with duets by army boys Derrick and Weicong whose shaven heads gave the hormone-charged xiao mei mei much to scream for. Next up was a guitar-strumming Junyang who then introduced the ge sheng yi ji bang de Sin Huey. Her first song was Hikaru Utada’s First Love, a song of great personal meaning to her. She sang with piano accompaniment only instead of the orchestra music in the original version. If you have seen Utada’s MTV Unplugged version before, you would appreciate this is not at all an easy song to sing. Sin Huey sang it a little differently from Utada, with a bit more power. I could tell she was very mai li and tou ru and her rendition gave me goosebumps. Up next was a duet with her demure younger sister Sin Rui, who came all the way from KL to perform together onstage with her for the very first time. As I wasn’t familiar with the song they sang (有你真好) I don’t have much recollection of their performance now except that it was rather nice and sweet. The third song was Kelly Chen Huiling’s不要说抱歉, the 4th track of the Best of Jue Dui Superstar CD. What I love about Sin Huey’s version is her refreshing interpretation of the song which she sang differently from Kelly and made it her own. I particularly like the husky tone of her voice and the feeling she injected into the tune. Her concert rendition was almost as good as the CD version but I found the outfit/boots she wore for that song rather odd. Eh, for the sake of nitpicking lah!

Fast forward (sorry, quite sian with some segments) into the second half with a big-haired Kelly singing a fast song 发烫 and a Cantonese song 问我 by Sammi Cheng. She next introduced Kelvin and befitting his Superstar champion status, performed the most number of songs during the show, including an audience’s pick. He sang well and engaged in an easy banter with Quan Yifeng who cheekily asked if he would consider to be with an older married woman with one kid… hehe. His repertoire included a popular Thai and Hokkien song and oldies like 月亮代表我的心 to the delight of the aunties in the audience. His piano accompaniment of a duet (陪你看日出) with his sister Wei Nee was a hit with the crowd.

Some people mistakenly thought the group performance of 老鼠爱大米 was the finale and thus left, missing the encore. Wasted, man. The best part of the encore was the piano version of 遗失的美好 duet by Sin Huey and Kelly. I can only say that Sin Huey’s vocals were exquisite in this song and would have been perfect if she had sung solo. Next was the guy’s turn with Kelvin and Junyang crooning Tong Hua to the strumming of their guitars. The concert came to an end at 11.45pm with a group song finale.

My main gripe of the concert was the use of canned music instead of a live band. The only form of live music was the piano accompaniment on a few songs and guitar strumming by a few of the Superstars. For the high ticket prices charged, I had expected a live band which would have enhanced the concert experience.

On a score of 1-10, I would rate Sin Huey’s concert performance a 8.5. While she received an appreciative response from the general audience, I can’t say she has quite endeared herself to them the way Kelvin did with his laid-back sense of humour or Kelly’s “ya ya” way of speaking (oops!). Somehow her likeable personality fails to come through onstage but hopefully she can establish a more appealing identity over time.

To Sin Huey, I just wanna say watching you sing is really a form of xiangshou. Oo-la-la :)

Sin Huey To Fans : 不要说抱歉

The Superstar Top 10 compilation album was launched this evening at Bishan Junction 8, exclusively for those who had pre-ordered the $29.90 CD that comes with one ticket to the Superstar concert. They got the chance to shake hands with Kelvin, Sin Huey, Kelly and Junyang, but no autographing of CD though. As I will be getting the CD only this Fri, I could only stare longingly at those with the CD in hand… sigh. There was a fairly good turnout considering it’s a week night and some students still in the midst of exams.

My main motivation for rushing down to this event was to listen to Sin Huey’s debut studio song entitled不要说抱歉. No, there was no live performance from Sin Huey and the rest but all the tracks from the CD were played during the event. Well, shan’t comment on the songs except for Sin Huey’s until I give the CD a proper listen.

First impression of the song… nice! Strangely the vocal in the song initially sounded more like Kelly to me (huh?). I dare say it sounds nicer than Kelly Chen’s version and should enjoy plenty of airplay later. By Sin Huey’s standard it’s not a technically challenging song but I think it’s a good choice as it’s an easy-listening type of song. Furthermore the song title conveys Sin Huey’s message to her fans. She revealed that fans have been saying sorry to her for something they couldn’t do for her so she would like them to 不要说抱歉. Hope I heard that right cos there was plenty of noise from the crowd when the Superstars were talking. When asked about their future plans, all except Sin Huey talked about preparing to record their new albums. Felt kind of sad for Sin Huey :( Will she or she not get a recording deal? Arghhh!!!

It was nice to see Sin Huey taking good care of Kelvin during the event, guiding him around and nudging him with her elbow when sharing a personal joke between them. She had a fair share of gifts from fans too. I’m really amazed at their creativity… among the gifts was a bunch of paper roses with Ferero Rocher chocolates attached to some of the rosebuds! So sweet :)

The Tiong Bahru Plaza square was sardine-packed with Super Fans and curious onlookers waiting for the arrival of the ten Superstars. It was a darn hot afternoon and jostling with sweaty bodies wasn't my idea of a relaxing Saturday. But the prospect of seeing Sin Huey perked me up considerably. Super Fans from the various fan clubs had already "chopped" the best "seats" in the house, with Junyang's FC staking their positions the day before (so said 933 dj Pei Fen). Not wanting to miss out on the action were curious uncles and ah peks and mothers with toddlers and babes in arms. A motley crowd indeed.

Pei Fen started the ball rolling by announcing the pre-order for the eagerly awaited Superstar CD costing $29.90 that comes with one free ticket to the Super Concert. Wow that's a Super Duper deal if you ask me. Obviously a desperate last minute bid to fill up the seats at the brand new Max Pavillion come 30 Sept.

Next the galaxy of Superstars, togged out in their customary white tops, trooped onstage amidst boisterous cheers from screaming fans. Sin Huey, in blue jeans and a hugging v-neck cap sleeve t-shirt that accentuated her curves, was a picture of poise and radiance and oozing nu ren wei . Omg my heart was starting to palpitate! :D She was flanked by the affable Leon and the lion-maned Silver..hehe. The rest were Jason, Kelvin, Junyang, Sebastian, Kelly, Candyce and Ruth. Each said a few words to publicise the concert with Sin Huey sounding the most enthusiastic. While fans of Junyang and Kelly notched up the highest decibels, Sin Huey's fans held their own too. Bravo to the SHFC - lurve the placard!

After striking some photo poses for the fans, the handshaking session started for fans in the queue with Super concert tickets. Sin Huey appeared genuinely pleased to meet them, greeting each handshake with a nod and a bright smile. Once in a while, she turned hyper excited when coming across familiar faces. Me, I was contented to just watch the proceedings (read Sin Huey) from below the stage even though I have a ticket. Ok lah, truth be told, I had forgotten to bring along the ticket. Dammit! All too soon the handshaking session came to an end. After waving their goodbyes onstage the Superstars were whizzed back in a van.

The most memorable part of the event for me was not so much what happened onstage but off it. When the Superstars boarded the van, some fans rushed forward to catch a last glimpse of their idols. As the van started to pull away, most of the Superstars had settled in comfortably into their seats. Except for Sin Huey, who moved to the back of the van and continued waving to her fans until they were out of sight. Gan dong or not? It was an endearing sight : )

A girl in a white top and blue jeans - my favourite. If she had worn some nice spectacles to go along with, I think I will faint. Hehe.

Yesterday's Shoot! 有话就说's topic was Project Superstar!

Again?

I remember in a previous episode they had already discussed about idol worship and stuff, so here we go again.

This time was different though because Sin Huey 欣卉 was on the panel, which is funny because this blog is called "Sin Huey & the Superstars".

Cai Shen Jiang 蔡深江 and his buddy Huang Ming De 黄明德 were very biased against the show obviously, and also against the entertainment industry in general.

They questioned the "fairness" of the competition, and the values that the show are teaching to the young people, ie. Is the Superstar show a shortcut 捷径 to fame and fortune, and is that what the show is teaching you young people 你们年轻人?

Actually, Sin Huey had already replied promptly to their questions with very logical arguments, if not for their constant (and rather rude) interuptions. I may as well ask this here. Cai and Huang are supposedly representing the elite, respected and highly educated civil society right? Why is it that they can't just talk, but have to SHOUT so loud and talk like they want to fight like that? Not only in this episode but like in every episode? Why huh?

I also think Sin Huey was right in saying the competition is unfair, but we can't help it because the show is in a certain format and we are just playing by the rules. Even soccer matches also got kelong, so fairness in competitions is an ideal but is difficult to achieve in real life.

Another thing Sin Huey correctly pointed out was that Cai and Huang seem to think that you young people 你们年轻人 are mindless and individualistic 自我. Actually, this is a very condescending view of young people, as if only young people can be led astray, or do the wrong things. Fact is adults can also do wrong things, turn bad, or commit crimes. Adults are not saints, we all make mistakes too.

I think they should all stop using the phrase 你们年轻人 in such a condescending manner. If anything, it's these people who always think they're right that are being 自我.

I criticise so much, hope I don't get sued. I'm only writing what I feel. 有话就说 Shoot!

Macy 郭美汐 Spotted! At CCK

I saw Macy 郭美汐 at CCK Lot 1 today. She was chatting rather animatedly to her boyfriend (think saw him on TV before). Maybe she lives nearby? Think she's tall.

Erm...that's all. Haha.

Like I promised this blog is not only about Sin Huey. But I don't have much news about the other Superstars.

Sin Huey appeared on Shoot! 有话就说 today. She looked prim and proper in that suit or whatever she was wearing, but seemed a little tired.

Sin Huey's comments shows her maturity and sensibility, I feel.

I will probably write what I think about the guests' comments in the show tommorrow.

RECAP: 仙履奇缘 A Cinderella Story

When nothing much is ongoing, it's time for a recap of our Project Supertar show!

I will try to write a little something here everyday for the sake of my loyal readers, yes, that's you!

I noticed Sin Huey right from before the Top 24 already. Although she was a little bit plump then, I liked her features, voice and the way she replied to the judges.

My other picks were Junyang and Wei Chong for the guys, and Kelly and Wendy for the girls. I was looking out for, who among the contestants had the potential to become singers, evaluating them based on looks, image, and vocals. These 5 were the ones I singled out.

My personal favorite though was of course, Sin Huey. I remember that she was one of the first female contestants to perform in the Top 24 (炫耀), but I was quite baffled when she was largely ignored by the judges. At that stage of the competition, the contestants had yet to acquire a fanbase behind them yet, so the judges' comments carried a lot of weight.

Luckily, later on Sin Huey turned on the heat. Finally the judges recognised her talent and so did the audience.

And for the record: I like Fang Zhong Hua 方钟桦. I know many people think he doesn't give constructive comments which I think is true, but he is one of the least biased judges. I won't comment on who are the super-biased ones. And if I remember correctly, he was the one who first called Sin Huey the Dark Horse 黑马 thus prompting the viewers to look at Sin Huey in a new light.

Sin Huey's Revolution is a slow one. People grew slowly to like her as they saw how she defied the odds, being neglected, threatened, verbally abused to come out strongly and let us see that she is indeed Beautiful.

And her story might as well be any of ours too, for we are all beautiful, in every single way. And Sin Huey through her struggle on national TV showed us that.

The Cinderella Story has just begun...

Announcement: Nothing Much Goin' On

Nothing much going on today about Sin Huey, so I'll take the chance to make an announcement of sorts.

As I am unlikely to attend many of Sin Huey's events myself, I may not be able to fill this blog with event coverage reports like Superfunkies recording, Tiong Bahru Plaza, JB events, and the Superstar Concert.

So if any of you attends Sin Huey's events in future, feel free to email me your photos, and maybe with a bit of writing (need not be long) about your experience of the event. eg. you shake Sin Huey's hand, or she smile at you, or what she chat with you about...etc.

Then I'll put it up on the blog to share with every Superstar fan.

*Note: Supporters of other Superstars can also send me anything about their Superstar, because this blog is not limited to discussion about Sin Huey. Remember, all the Superstars like Kelly, Jun Yang, Wei Lian, Derrick, etc are also Sin Huey's friends 哦!

That is what you might have seen and HEARD had you attended the recording session of Superfunkies, the new Channel U variety program featuring the Superstars as hosts, performers and guests all in one.

Poor Sin Huey was busy acknowledging the repeated shoutings of her name, nodding, waving and smiling at the large pool of her fans seated mostly in the upper storey of the auditorium. All the while trying to remember her lines and trying to pay attention to the producer's instructions amidst all the noise.

The Superstar fans 粉丝 were there in full force. Project Superstar may have ended on Sep 1st when Weilian touched the hearts of Singaporeans across the nation, but in the absence of the main series, the spinoffs such as Superfunkies will seem like a treat to the insatiably hungry SuperFANS.

Jun Yang's army of screaming fans holding conspicuous posters were probably the most prominent, but there were pockets of fans for each of the other contestants as well. Of notable absence though were the fans of Weilian, our first Project Superstar winner.

Sin Huey's pink brigade were arguably the second in numbers, but perhaps could have used some help from noise-enhancing devices like whistles to announce their presence.

And here we come to the good part.

The most entertaining bit of the session wasn't happening on the stage, but coming from the row right behind me. One brave BROTHER holding a poster of Sin Huey was attracting the attention of the whole auditorium with his repeated (often solo) bellowing of Sin Huey's name. The rest of the pink brigade would echo his often humorous words but even their collective voice weren't probably half as loud as his single hoarse but passionate voice.

The show content was a mild blend of slapslick sabo games, the results of which are quite obviously preplanned. No details here to avoid spoilers. Suffice to say nothing of originality there but simply gags to showcase the Superstars having some fun and a laugh.

At least we got to hear a song by Sin Huey, it was worth the trip just to hear her rendition of "Beautiful" live.

Two episodes were scheduled to be recorded, but I scrambled out of there after the first one.

At the exit one of the show ushers said to me,"It's too noisy, is it?"

"It was okay," I replied.

"Okay for you? But not okay for us leh. It's so noisy, we just want the thing to end quickly and go home."

Well, looks like the noise will continue for a time yet.

I made my lonely trek down Caldecott Hill, visions of a smiling, nodding, waving Superstar in my mind, strains of her "We are beautiful..." ringing sweetly in my ears...

We hope to include articles discussing Sin Huey, perhaps reviewing her journey through the competition, and also updates on her latest developments.

Any other gossip, speculation, and critique of the Superstars may also be included.

Note: Anything on this blog is just the opinion of the blogger, and does not represent the views of any other persons or organisations.
